If you’re a nerd, geeky or have some knowledge of pop culture, you know what fan fiction is. If not, let me explain it to you. Fan fiction, as its name indicates, is a work of fiction (mainly written) created by fans of a movie, TV show, book, comic book, historical character or even real people. But in this entry, I’m going to focus on one genre of fan fiction: slash.
The word ‘slash’ comes from the symbol / in the stories, specifying the pairing written about. Ex: Kirk/Spock, Sherlock/John, Sam/Frodo. For some reason, the symbol was designed to name this particular genre. Slash fiction is created by women for women, with some exceptions to the rule, of course, as gay men tend to write and read their own slash.
